WKU announces new uniform policy

The Board of Regents unanimously voted for a new campus uniform policy at their meeting last Friday. This new policy will be enforced in the fall 2017 semester.

According to the policy, students would be required to wear uniforms on campus from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Regent Phillip Bale said the decision was made “for the students, by the students.” He and other regents spoke about comments from members of the WKU community that the campus lacked a form of unity, and they hope this decision will change that.

To finance these uniforms, a $100 fee per semester will be added to every student’s account on July 1, the first day of the new fiscal year.

A group of students, led by SGA President and student regent Jay Todd Richey, originally presented the idea to the Board of Regents earlier this semester.

For females, the uniforms will be a knee-length plaid skirt or slacks, a polo shirt, knee-high socks and dress shoes. Inspiration for the male uniform was taken from Richey himself and will include dress pants or khakis; a tucked-in, embroidered WKU polo shirt; and dress shoes. All students will be required to wear blazers with a crest on the front.

The designs for this new crest are yet to be determined, but Richey said Big Red is the inspiration for the insignia.

Just kidding! Happy April Fools’ Day from the Talisman!
