270 Chronicles: Thirsty’s brings dirty sodas to Fountain Square Park

The 270 Chronicles tells stories within Bowling Green’s 270 area code, 270 words at a time, featuring niche events, organizations and people that make up our local community.

Thirsty’s, a new drink shop at  Fountain Square Park, opened this past August. Owner Vance Ruiz from Bowling Green said the idea to open a drink shop was inspired by his wife.

“The biggest inspiration was my wife, she’s from the West, where this idea of soda shops is everywhere,” Ruiz Said. “I was like, why don’t we have any out east?”

Ruiz said he brought the idea to Bowling Green, hoping to provide a fun experience for his customers.

“The environment is friendly, fast and comfortable,” Ruiz said. “We’ve got music going. We want to make it fun and fresh.”

Ruiz said the community around Thirsty’s has been a huge help in getting their name out.

“The community around here is amazing, our neighboring stores are super kind in pointing people our direction, coming in themselves to get to know us,” Ruiz said.

Ruiz said the main product they offer is a dirty soda. He said dirty sodas are a concoction of different ingredients with a base soda flavor of your choosing.

“A dirty soda is essentially where you mix in syrups, creamers, purees and fresh fruit,” Ruiz said.

Ruiz said that Thirsty’s also offers items that aren’t drinks.

“We have pretzel bites and waffle fries, we also have desserts like cakes, cheesecakes, oreo balls and cake balls,” Ruiz said.

Thirsty’s aims to provide a fun spot for students to stop by, chill and enjoy all that they offer.

“For WKU students, it’s a fun environment and great place to hang out if you need a spot downtown,” Ruiz said. “If you want something refreshing, just swing by here.”
