During the week, WKU’s Chinese Flagship students celebrated the Lunar New Year, members of the Best Buddies program participated in a Special Olympics basketball game, WKU Dance students took to the stage to perform in the annual Dance Project and more. The Talisman photographers were there to capture all the moments.
Jennifer Graham sits with her cat, Fern, at her house behind The Registry Apartments. Graham says that her family has lived in this house since the Great Depression. “We used to have a green fence surrounding a trailer park there, and a big garden,” she said. “Can’t survive on slugs and snails, and that’s what this is now, slugs and snails… But they can’t really push us out until we move.” (Photo by Emilee Arnold)
WKU freshman Kaylee Firkins walks past the bronze soldier beneath Guthrie Bell Tower with her 10-month-old cat, Ducky, on Thursday. Firkins says she’s trying to familiarize Ducky to campus. “She’s just like a dog on back-trails, but scared to walk around humans,” she said. “If she stares at them awhile, she might start walking.” The statue, by sculptor Russ Faxon, depicts U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Robert H. Guthrie, the namesake of the tower. (Photo by Arthur H. Trickett-Wile)
