Opinion: Ranking TopperFellas

Early in the spring 2024 semester started the campus-wide phenomenon, TopperFella. Throughout the year, students searched high and low around campus, especially around academic buildings, in hopes of finding a TopperFella to add to their collection. As someone who enjoys finding these creations, here is my ranking of some of the most popular TopperFellas.

7. RedFella

Although the GrayFella was the first ever TopperFella made, the RedFella was the first to start the campus-wide scavenger hunt. This makes sense because this figurine incorporates our school color, red. I personally have never found this red little guy, which is a bit disappointing, but the Redfella will always remain a name in the TopperFella Hall of Fame.

6. JollyFella

JollyFella was introduced in November 2024 as the “holiday mascot” of TopperFella. This TopperFella is white and resembles the legendary Christmas figure, Santa Claus. This TopperFella was only placed around campus from November to December 2024. Hopefully, the JollyFella makes another appearance in the next go-around because I need it. Although I did put the JollyFella in a low ranking, there is no denying that this gave students a reason to search a little harder before leaving for holiday break. Not to mention, this was the first TopperFella to have its own unique look rather than the usual TopperFella look.

5. FanFella

FanFellas were introduced during finals week in December 2024. These are regular printed TopperFellas but painted to have a unique and intricate design. This one deserves its own category as a whole because there have been a lot of creative designs, a “Despicable Me” minion, a cherry and even a disco ball. The FanFellas are rare to find. Only one is printed with its own design and placed in one spot on campus. Whenever a new FanFella is printed, the creator will give out hints on their Instagram to give students an idea of where they may be hiding. If you have ever found a FanFella of any design, you strike me as someone who was always good at Hide-and-Seek.

4. MauveFella

I will admit I am a little biased with this ranking because I like the color. MauveFella was introduced in March 2025 as a collection of five different shades of Mauve. The MauveFella was considered rare because only 35 were distributed throughout campus via the TopperFella Instagram account. It would have been nice to find the little mauve figurine, but I will keep my head up high and hope that they will make another appearance.

3. BloomFella

Just in time for the spring season, BloomFella was introduced. This is yet another TopperFella that I do not have as part of my collection, but I have high hopes that I will redeem myself and find one. This figurine is designed as the typical TopperFella look but has a pastel green color and has either a leaf, a four-leaf clover, a monstera leaf or a daisy on its head. What makes this TopperFella so special is that the creator decided to paint some of them gold to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, to give them that extra bit of luck.

2. 1000Fella

There is a reason why this has the runner-up spot. The 1000Fella was introduced because the TopperFella Instagram account hit a milestone of getting 1,000 followers. This figurine is yellow with the number 1,000 on its brow. This one deserves a high ranking because it shows the level of popularity TopperFella has on campus. It is so popular that there was a Trade Day event on April 23, where students could trade and get the exclusive “TradeDayFella.”

1. GrayFella

Commonly known as the OG, this TopperFella rightfully takes its place at the number one spot because GrayFella started it all. It is the most common TopperFella to find all over campus. The GrayFella was easy for me to find because I have only found two, but I am lucky enough to say that I am one of the people who were able to find a TopperFella in general.

TopperFella is something I can see becoming a household name on the Hill. I am curious to see what other creations will appear on campus. What is your favorite TopperFella?
