The 270 Chronicles tells stories within Bowling Green’s 270 area code, 270 words at a time, featuring niche events, organizations and people that make up our local community.
On Tuesday, Feb. 17, Vette City Vintage began selling their clothes in a vendor spot at Market 270, a Greenwood Mall store, Vette City Vintage owner, Gatlin Milam said.
Milam, originally from Russellville, Kentucky, said he first started selling clothes at Consignment Corner in early 2018 and opened his main shop downtown in 2022.
“If everything goes the way I would love for it to go, I could rent out a sizable amount of that store and let people shop Vette City at a bigger scale inside Greenwood Mall,” Milam said.
Milam said the rent for an individual store at the mall is very high, but the foot traffic is a lot better there than most shopping areas in Bowling Green. He said Vette City Vintage currently has a 5-foot wall space and one rack of clothes in Market 270.
“It seemed like there were always one or two customers in the store, which is great,” Milam said.
He said that most of the stores at Market 270 sell things like boutique wear, cozy crewnecks, sweatsuits and tailgate wear. For now, he said, Vette City’s booth contains a lot of Y2K-type clothing, 2000s women’s wear, casual 90s t-shirts, a few dresses, some low-rise and mid-rise jeans and a few accessories.
“I think I’m kind of a standout store within Market 270,” Milam said.
Milam said that in the future, for his business, he would love to have a larger location, but he has no plans to move right now. He said he loves the spot he has downtown and, mostly, he is focused on expanding his space in Market 270.
