It’s award season, which means the average pop culture publication would ask their fashion writer to compile a list of their favorite/least favorite/who-wore-it-better gowns and looks.
Here at the Talisman, however, we like to approach things a little bit differently.
According to a 2016 Forbes article, the average Oscar gown costs around $72,000 pocket change, amiright?
Below is a list of activities that are just as extravagant as the frocks worn on the red carpet.
1. Almost 3 1/2 semesters of tuition at Harvard College
Harvard’s website says that tuition for the 2016-2017 school year is $43,280. For three and a half semesters, this would cost you around $75,740.
2. Spending two semesters at sea
According to numbers on the Semester at Sea website, the combined cost of fall 2017 and spring 2018 voyages is anywhere from $63,505 to $75,505.
3. 288,000 scantrons. Who knows, you could probably also buy the machine and grade your own test.
At $0.25 each, you could purchase 288,000 scantrons for the price of an average Oscar gown. That *might* get you through four years of college.
4. 91,139 donuts from GADs.
But there’s no telling how many calories this amount of donuts would have.
Ultimately, kids, money can’t buy happiness, but it can buy you all this.
You can decide to become an Oscar nominee and appear on the best-dressed list or invest your moolah elsewhere. The choice is yours.
